5.6.13 Policies Relative to Clinical Experience

a) Students may be required to complete clinical experience at sites outside of Calgary. Students' clinical experience may also be scheduled at various hours, including evenings, nights and weekends, or any day of the week. MD students are responsible for all travel, parking and accommodation costs related to clinical experiences except for University of Calgary Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (UCLIC) at their assigned primary sites.

b) Students must demonstrate satisfactory performance as delineated in the objectives of each clerkship. Participation in all activities that involve patients is mandatory.

c) Students who miss one or more clinical days, must comply with the MD Program attendance policies.

d) A student may be prohibited from attending or completing a clinical experience if there is concern about patient care or patient safety. The Instructor or preceptor will consult with, or inform the Associate Dean, UME when such a concern arises. The Associate Dean, UME will hear from the Student and determine options for resumption of studies in that clinical experience.

Refer to the CSM UME Reappraisal and Appeals policies for further information.
