3.1 Admissions

Students apply for co-op/internships programs either through “Career Link” available on the Career Services Website (live-ucalgary.ucalgary.ca/student-services/careers), or directly through their faculty. Information on admission to each co-op and internship program is available through the faculty office. See section 4. Faculty Contact Office for a list of locations.

General Admission Requirements

Students must:

  • Be registered as a full-time student.
  • Be registered in a faculty/program offering Co-operative Education/Internship programs.
  • Be legally permitted to work in Canada. International students must obtain a Co-operative Work Permit to be eligible for work placements.
  • Obtain the required permits if they choose to pursue a placement in a country other than Canada.
  • Meet faculty/program GPA and course entrance requirements.
  • Complete the Career Development Workshop or equivalent Faculty-specific preparatory session(s),
  • Attend a personal interview to determine admissibility, if required by their faculty.

Students applying to Co-operative Education/Internship should also be aware of the following:

1. Students in combined degree programs are eligible for Co-operative Education/Internship programs in one of the degree programs.

2. The University reserves the right to refuse admission to a Co-operative Education/Internship program on academic or other grounds.

3. Transfer students from other universities may be considered for admission to the Co-operative Education/Internship program. Please refer to the faculty section for additional details. All transfer students are advised to complete one academic term at the University of Calgary prior to a work term.

Application Process

Students must submit a completed Co-operative Education/Internship Student Application form by the appropriate deadline date. Applications for admission are reviewed by the faculty. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. For more information on the application process contact the appropriate faculty office (See Section 4).

Admission Appeals

Admission decisions may not be appealed; however, students who believe there has been an error in the assessment of their application to a Co-operative/Internship program, should contact their Faculty Associate Dean who will review the application process.
