Transforming Phone Line and Text Supports for LGBTQ+ Callers in the Canadian Prairies
Summary
Our study looks at how crisis lines in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba respond to LGBTQ+ callers and texters. We are interested in interviewing crisis phone line and text support operators for this study. We would like to hear about your experience(s) when working with LGBTQ+ callers and texters. This study also wants to look at recommendations or changes that can improve crisis lines for the LGBTQ+ population.
Eligibility
Eligible gender: Male, Female, Transgender, Other
Eligible ages: 19 to 80
Accepts healthy participants: Yes
Inclusion criteria:
Service Provider Inclusion Criteria:
1) Must be working or volunteering as a crisis phone line and text support operator at a crisis call center in either Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba
2) Must be working or volunteering as a crisis phone line and text support operator in a non-specific LGBTQ+ crisis call center or an LGBTQ+-specific crisis call center
3) Have been working or volunteering as a crisis phone line and text support operator at the same crisis call center for at least one year or more (phone line, text, or both).
4) Must be over the age of 19 (The age to work/volunteer at a crisis center is 18 and up. We want to have a gap between the starting age to work/volunteer at a crisis center as we are curious if there are any LGBTQ+ training or workshops that occur within a year.)
5) Have a computer or laptop accessible to complete the Zoom interview.
Exclusion criteria:
Service Provider Exclusion Criteria:
1) Working or Volunteering as a crisis phone line and text support operator at a crisis center that is not in the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba
2) Working or Volunteering as a crisis phone line and text support operator at a call center that is not specific to crisis response
3) Working or volunteering at more than one crisis centers within a year
4) Under the age of 19
5) Not having accessible technology to carry out Zoom interview
