Promoting Culturally Relevant Care and Anti-Racist Practices in Mental Health Services: Parental Perspectives

Summary

Newcomers to Canada have specific mental health needs, many of which may not be addressed by current mental health services. Our study is meant to collect the voices of newcomer parents who have accessed mental health services in Canada to support their minor children, along with their recommendations for improvement.

Eligibility

Currently recruiting participants: Yes

Eligible gender: Male, Female, Transgender, Other

Eligible ages: 24 to 80

Accepts healthy participants: Yes

Inclusion criteria:

1. Arrived in Canada no more than 5 years ago
2. Aged 24-80
3. Currently have or have had minor children living in Canada
4. Must have a smartphone
5. Must have accessed mental health services in Canada to support their minor children
6. Must speak English or French for the interview

Exclusion criteria:

1. Person who arrived in Canada more than 5 years ago
2. Has no children/or no children living in Canada
3. No access to a smartphone.
4. Under 24 years of age
5. Has not accessed mental health services in Canada
6. People who do not speak English or French for the interview
