Improving a new approach to breast cancer detection

Summary

Our team is developing a new way to image the breast. The system uses low powered microwave energy to create images of the breast. The power is much lower than a cell phone, so tissues are not heated during the scans. We would like to compare our images to mammograms. We need to know the position of the breast on the microwave scanner for this comparison. We have placed a low powered lasers near the system to map the breast location. Knowing the breast location is also expected to help to improve our imaging method. The study is located in a secure research lab on main campus at the University of Calgary where a female nurse will perform the scans.

Currently recruiting participants: No

Eligible gender: Female

Eligible ages: 18 to 74

Accepts healthy participants: Yes

Inclusion criteria:

Women between the ages of 18 and 74 who have previously had a mammogram are eligible for the study.

Exclusion criteria:

1) Women under 18 years old
2) Women currently undergoing breast cancer treatment
3) Women who have not had a mammogram previously
