Education Materials on Obstrutive Sleep Apnea: Patients’ Perspectives Study

Summary

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the most common sleep-related breathing disorder and has been associated with several adverse medical problems such as cardiovascular disease, depression, poor quality of life, motor vehicle collision and premature deaths. Despite the importance of patient education materials (PEMs) in OSA management, there has been little research to evaluate patients’ experiences, challenges and perspectives regarding PEMs designed for individuals with OSA.

The primary goal of this study is to evaluate patients’ perspectives regarding the accessibility (look, language, content etc), understandability, trustworthiness, and general usability of patient education materials designed for patients with OSA. Study participants will partake in 30-60 minutes interviews. We will conduct these interviews remotely, and will offer a range of modalities to accommodate participants. These will include secure virtual meeting platforms (such as Zoom or Teams, depending on participant preference) to ensure data security and in-person participation, as well as traditional telephone communication to ensure that access to video conferencing technologies are not a barrier to participation
