Profile
Christian Daniel Magsombol is an MSc student at the University of Calgary conducting research on additively manufactured hybrid composites. Utilizing his background in kinematics and compliance design, internship experience in aerospace manufacturing, and an array of digital engineering tools, he aims to leverage hybrid composites to develop thin-shell structures with tailored deployment mechanics for aerospace applications.
Christian is passionate about integrating creativity with engineering. As an undergraduate at the University of Calgary, he was a core member of UCalgary Racing for six years and served as Suspension Lead in his final two years. He contributed significantly to manufacturing, vehicle dynamics, kinematics and compliance, and data acquisition across four vehicle generations. Through further leadership initiatives, Christian also introduced a CAD "Designathon" hackathon to the University of Calgary, attracting participants from across North America. In 2022, he received the Engineering Students' Society's Junior of the Year award for his leadership and advocacy for creativity in engineering. Christian completed his undergraduate studies with a capstone project that developed a hybrid rocket fuel-mixing plate using carbon-carbon composites, earning first place with his team.
Outside academics, Christian pursues visual arts and graphic design. He is also active in mountain biking, snowboarding, rock climbing, and motorsports, all of which carry innovations in composite materials.
