Hiring for Postdoctoral Associate

Position Overview

The Adaptive Bionics Lab in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Calgary is currently recruiting a Postdoctoral Associate under the supervision of Dr. Emily Rogers-Bradley. Recruitment is for research projects in the areas of robotic prosthesis design, exoskeleton development, and musculoskeletal modeling. Anticipated start date of September, 2025 (or earlier, depending on candidate availability). 

Summary of key responsibilities

  • Design and set up experiments, lead data collection and analysis.
  • Technical design of mechanisms and actuators, applying first principles concepts to novel designs.
  • Lead development in musculoskeletal and biomechanical modeling and optimization
  • Work closely with other researchers, faculty, and graduate students.
  • Lead the preparation of research papers and conference presentations.
  • Assist PI with laboratory management tasks.

Qualifications/ requirements:

  • Hold a PhD in mechanical engineering or biomedical engineering.
  • 5+ years of research experience in mechanical engineering, machine design, medical device design, or biomechanics.
  • Experience in precision machine design and actuator design strongly preferred.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to independently drive research projects and provide supervision to graduate students.
  • Strong track record of academic publications.
  • Strong proficiency in written and spoken English, as measured by an exam score of: TOEFL iBT 86+, IELTS 6.5+, Cambridge C1 Advanced or Cambridge C2 Proficiency 180+, PTE 59+, or CAEL 70+.

Undergraduate Summer Students

We will be accepting summer students (BSc) for spring/summer 2026. Interested students are encouraged to apply for support through the NSERC USRA or PURE Program. Deadlines for these programs are in February 2026, if interested please reach out to Dr. Rogers-Bradley by January.
