Backcountry Emergencies

This 8-hour course is the perfect overview for outdoor recreationalists who don't have a lot of time, and don't require a recognized certificate.
The training introduces potential injuries and emergencies that may arise during your backcountry adventure and focuses on how to manage them effectively.
This is a practical, non-certified course.
Prerequisite: none. Includes: certified instructor, course manual, use of first aid equipment

Remote Responder (24 hours)

A great introduction to wilderness first aid, and suitable training for outdoor recreationalists.
This course is not appropriate or adequate for trip leaders, instructors or those undertaking extended travel in remote areas.
This training is recognized by Alberta Workplace Health and Safety, and includes a full day of practical scenarios.
Prerequisite: none. Certification: Remote Responder (WFA) Certification (valid for 3 years) – includes CPR and AED training. Includes: certified instructor, course manual, use of first aid equipment

Adventure Medic (40 hours)

This 40-hour course is the wilderness first aid standard for avid outdoor recreationalists and activity instructors. The minimum standard for outdoor leaders in less remote areas, but not suitable for professionals spending extended periods of time in remote regions.
The program focuses on the longer-term implications for care, stabilization, and evacuation of patients from wilderness locations, beyond the initial first aid treatment, and includes the latest CPR and AED standards. This course is presented by blending classroom theory and practice with 2 days of outdoor practical scenarios.
Prerequisite: none. Certification: Adventure Medic (valid for 3 years). Recognized by Alberta OH&S as equivalent to Standard First Aid. Includes: certified instructor, use of first aid equipment, course manual.

Advanced Adventure Medic / Wilderness First Responder (80 hours)

This 80-hour course is a comprehensive, professional-level training program suitable for those who work in a non-standard environment, recreationalists planning extended and remote expeditions, and outdoor leaders. This is the industry standard for professionals including guides, ski patrol, and search and rescue teams.
Training focuses on detailed assessment and medical care, particularly in emergency situations where equipment and resources may be limited.
This course requires a high level of commitment, and includes self-study and homework assignments. Delivery format includes both classroom time and 4 days of practical outdoor scenarios.
Prerequisite: none. Certification: Advanced Adventure Medic (recognized by Alberta OHS) or Wilderness First Responder (both valid for 3 years) including Healthcare Provider CPR & AED training. Includes: certified instructor, use of first aid equipment, course manual.

Advanced Adventure Medic Bridge Course (40 hours)

This course is designed for those who have recently completed a Adventure Medic or equivalent 40-hour Wilderness First Aid certification, and would like to raise the certification to that of the 80-hour professional level. This intense 5-day program involves a high level of commitment from participants, including pre-course assignments.
Certification must have been received no more than 1 year prior to the start date of the bridge course.
Prerequisite: none. Certification: Advanced Adventure Medic (recognized by Alberta OHS) or Wilderness First Responder (both valid for 3 years) including Healthcare Provider CPR & AED training. Includes: certified instructor, use of first aid equipment, course manual.

Remote Responder Recertification

Every 3 years, participants must recertify their Remote Responder Certification. The course consists of two evening classes and one field day.
Prerequisite: current Remote Responder or equivalent Wilderness First Aid certification. Includes: certified instructor, use of first aid equipment, course manual.

Adventure Medic Recertification

Every 3 years, participants must refresh their Adventure Medic skills. This 20-hour course blends classroom theory and practice with outdoor practical scenarios to review the material.
Prerequisite: current Adventure Medic or equivalent 40-hour Wilderness First Aid certification. Certification: Adventure Medic (valid for 3 years). Recognized by Alberta OH&S as equivalent to Standard First Aid. Includes: certified instructor, use of first aid equipment, course manual.

Advanced Adventure Medic / Wilderness First Responder Recertification

Every 3 years, participants must refresh their Advanced Adventure Medic / Wilderness First Responder skills. This 40-hour program offers ample opportunity for discussion, review, and practice of both theory and skills taught in the full course. This program moves at a relaxed pace and ensures that learners leave with a thorough understanding of course topics, resulting in a renewal of your existing Advanced Adventure Medic or Wilderness First Responder certification.
Prerequisite: current Advanced Adventure Medic or equivalent 80-hour Advanced Wilderness First Aid. Certification: Advanced Adventure Medic (recognized by Alberta OHS) or Wilderness First Responder (both valid for 3 years) including Healthcare Provider CPR & AED training. Includes: certified instructor, use of first aid equipment, course manual.
