Climb On Outdoors - Teens

Spend 3 days rock climbing at popular beginner routes in and around Kananaskis Country with ACMG guides. In 101, you'll have fun as you learn basic climbing skills like belaying, climbing calls and movement. In 201, you're already comfortable with the basics so you'll work on developing foot placement, hand positions and route reading. Required: check equipment list and additional information in the online event details. Prerequisite for 201: Climb On Outdoors 101 or equivalent. Includes: ACMG guides, all climbing equipment.

Mountain Biking Expedition - Teens

Camp for 3 days in Kananaskis and ride some of the best mountain terrain in the world. Through a combination of cross-country and freeride skill development, you’ll learn about and practice body positioning, gearing, cornering and maneuvering on trails. Trail selection, bike maintenance and outdoor skills are also introduced. This expedition is operated out of a base campsite to which riders return each night. Required: mountain bike. Check equipment list and additional information in the online event details. Prerequisite: very comfortable riding a bike and eager for off-road surfaces. Must attend pre-trip meeting with a parent to discuss required items and cover meal planning (food is not included). Includes: mountain biking instructors, all group gear, transportation.

Rafting Expedition - Teens

Spend 3 days rafting one of the most popular whitewater playgrounds close to Calgary—the Red Deer River. A rafting guide will teach paddling strokes, water safety and how to navigate rapids as we tour downstream. In the evenings we'll set up camp and enjoy group meals and sleep in tents. Note: river choice is subject to change based on water levels. Camping is not at designated campsites and will not have toilet facilities. Required: check equipment list and additional information in the online event details. Prerequisite: ability to swim 50m while wearing a lifejacket. Must attend pre-trip meeting with a parent to discuss required items and cover meal planning (food is not included). Includes: paddling guide, all rafting/group gear, transportation.

Soar and More - Teens

Interested in flying? Learn about the exciting world of windsports including hang gliding, paragliding and traction kiting. Through classroom and practical instruction, participants learn the basics of how to fly each of these crafts. The amount of time spent on each activity is wind-dependent. No experience necessary. Required: check equipment list and additional information in the online event details. Prerequisite: participants must be at least 5 feet tall and weigh 90 pounds. Includes: instructor, all gear, transportation. Program offered in conjunction with Muller Windsports.

Adapted Sport and Recreation

Come discover your unique abilities! This camp is centred around giving campers with physical disabilities the opportunity to experience various adapted sport, recreation and leisure activities. Take a trial of the adapted physical activity programming available throughout the year in the Calgary area. Campers will get to challenge themselves physically through activities such as sledge hockey, climbing, and wheelchair sports. Campers will also get to explore their creative side through dance, gymnastics, drumming and art. Our goal is to increase campers’ confidence in their ability to participate in community opportunities. This camp is a pilot program offered in partnership with the Vi Riddell Pediatric Rehabilitation Research Program. Please indicate the level of support necessary for your camper on the Online Medical Form. Our plan is to have 1:3 support, but can increase to 1:1 support where necessary. This camp is teens ages 13-17 with physical disabilities.

Canoeing Expedition - Teens

Spend 3 days in 101 learning all about canoeing while paddling the Red Deer River upstream of Drumheller or the Bow River south of Calgary. Our guide will cover water safety, paddling strokes, river reading, navigation and how to pack for a multi-day trip. In 201, you’ll spend 5 days on the North Saskatchewan River near Rocky Mountain House learning canoe tripping skills, backcountry cooking, self care and more. Required: check equipment list and additional information in the online event details. Prerequisite: ability to swim 25m while wearing a lifejacket. Must attend pretrip meeting with a parent to discuss required items and cover meal planning (food is not included). Includes: paddling guide, all canoe/group gear, transportation.

Dinos Basketball Camps

The Dinos Basketball Camps are the perfect place to improve your skills, get active and compete against other players around Calgary. Participants will learn basketball fundamentals and techniques, conditioning methods and team-play tactics.

Dinos Football Camps

If you dream of huddling with the pros, get a head start at the Dinos Football Camp designed for beginners in the sport.  The camp teaches the fundamentals of football in a fun and challenging environment. Get ready to blitz the competition with instruction by current and former University of Calgary players, coaches and area high school coaches. You are sure to learn a ton and have blast with other up-and-comers.

Dinos Football will be running camps at the Atom (non contact), Pee Wee, Bantam, and High school  (contact, and position specific) levels.

Dinos Track & Field Camps

Stand on the podium this year by enrolling in a Dinos Summer Track & Field Camp! Participants will be challenged both mentally and physically through many skill-specific drills in an competitive and encouraging environment, while training with other local athletes. Participants will experience first class coaching from the consistently nationaly ranked Varsity Men's and Women's track teams. This is the place to be if you want to pursue Track & Field at a higher level!

Dinos Volleyball Camps

You’ll get in shape for the volleyball season with jump training and strength sessions, advanced team play and tactics as well as development of your individual skills. Off the court, you’ll improve your fitness level and get nutrition strategies for peak performance.

Entrepreneurial Thinking in Action Camp

The Entrepreneurial Thinking in Action Camp draws on leading edge practices in curriculum development to deliver a transformational learning experience for students in grades 9 – 12. Over the three days, students will work in teams to develop their own new venture or social enterprise under the mentorship and guidance of University of Calgary instructors, students and alumni. Our experiential camp will teach our future leaders how to identify opportunities for innovation, understand customer value, develop a new venture or social enterprise business concept and pitch ideas to a panel of entrepreneurial leaders from our business community.

Get into Fly Fishing - Teens

Southern Alberta is world-renowned for great fly fishing. This 3-day instructional camp will introduce you to casting techniques, proper fly selection, knot tying, how to read the water and all about fish habitat. Each day we'll head out to different locations in and out of the city limits. Prerequisite: none. Includes: instructor, transportation, waders, PFDs, rods (if requested).

Get into Kayaking - Teens

Learn all about river kayaking in this 3-day beginner camp for teens. An introductory pool class gets you warmed up for an afternoon of skill development on the river. Then we're off to the Bow River for a day of moving-water skills. Finish off with a taste of whitewater on a full-day run from Ghost Dam to Cochrane (west of Calgary). Required: check equipment list and additional information in the online event details. Prerequisite: ability to swim 50m while wearing a lifejacket. Includes: river kayaking instructor, all kayak gear, wetsuit, transportation.

Street Art

Go big or go home! This camp is for teens who want to learn how to make a collaborative mural under the guidance of  two professional visual artists. daniel j. kirk and Katie Green have created numerous murals in Calgary and around the world. They want to share their creative process and help you develop your own to express yourself in a safe and supportive environment. Katie and daniel will walk you through the steps of creating a mural from conception to actualization and everything in between including: collaborating, brainstorming, sketching, drawing, designing and painting. The mural will be painted on the exterior wall of Blank Page Studio in Kensington. Participants will also get to go swimming and do a variety of games and physical activities throughout the week. Please note that the described activities are subject to change and are presented as examples only.

About the Artists:
Katie Green and daniel j. kirk are visual artists who work under the banner of Blank Page Studio which is a local creative hub with a mission to encourage dialogue and active participation in the development of Calgary’s cultural sphere. The team has numerous public artworks displayed around Calgary, including THE FIELD MANUAL (collaborative mural and installation part of the Riverwalk Public Art Program), the Bowness Public Library mural, and kirk’s most recent mural on 9th avenue in Inglewood. Together they have recently completed a project titled ‘Imaginarium’ which transforms the Contemporary Main Entrance of cSPACE King Edward into a full-scale, mixed-material installation exploring how the surrounding community of Marda Loop as well as the tenants of cSPACE King Edward relate to creativity.

Youth Triathlon Summer Camp

A triathlon is a multi-sport endurance event consisting of swimming, cycling, and running in immediate succession over various distances. This triathlon camp is offered by University of Calgary Triathlon Club, the longest serving Triathlon Club in Canada. Learn proper swimming, biking and running technique from highly trained coaches. Camp activities develop your aerobic and anaerobic systems to give you a good base for all sports. You will have fun with other youth at your level, with progression from start up, all the way to National Team level training.

To introduce this sport to campers and help them improve their transition times and their overall performance our coaches employ various, enjoyable techniques and activities. Come to challenge yourself this summer!

Requirements: Successful completion of skills in Level 6.
Swimmers develop front crawl (25m), learn back crawl (25m) and whip kick on back, learn stride dive and treading water, perform head-first sculling on back, and swim 75 meters continuously.

Backpacking Expedition - Teens

Head out to the mountains in Kananaskis with our backpacking guides for a multi-day trip of exploring and backcountry camping. Our guides will teach you route-finding, navigation, backcountry cooking, campsite management and animal safety. Backpacking Expedition 101 is a 3-day (2-night) introduction and Backpacking Expedition 201 is a 5-day extended trip for those who want a challenge. Prerequisite: must attend pretrip meeting with a parent to discuss required items and cover meal planning (food is not included). Includes: backpacking instructor, all group gear, transportation.

Dinos Hockey Camps

Lace up for an excellent hockey experience at a Dinos Hockey Camp this summer!  Participants will benefit from technical training and be led by current and former University of Calgary players and coaches. Hit the ice to hone your individual skills and learn advanced team play and tactics.  Step off the ice and put your training into overdrive with dry-land training, team building games an video sessions.

Goalies will get individual instruction, but will also be part of the player’s camp, which allows them to incorporate what they have worked on with the instructors.
