Begin to discover the wonders of science! This camp gives students entering Grades 1 and 2 in the Fall an early start to science and engineering. Spend a week exploring through hands-on activities that includes performing an owl pellet dissection, learning about chemical reactions, building simple machines and electrical circuits, and traveling back in time to learn about dinosaurs and fossils. Early Minds in Motion campers will have the opportunity to explore science and engineering through games, stories and experiments. Participants will get a chance to work in University of Calgary classrooms and laboratories and be taught by those in the fields of Science, Engineering and Education. Get on your lab coats and get ready for some fun!
**Please note that activities are subject to change and are presented as examples only. Grade refers to the grade your child is entering in the fall. Both Early Minds A and B are the same camp.
Tots on Treks
You’re never too young to appreciate the outdoors! This camp is specifically designed for first-graders. You’ll be introduced to hiking, how to find critters, and discover some fun facts about nature. We also do crafts, go swimming, and visit fun Calgary locations. We’re even going on a bus trip to Big Hill Springs Provincial Park outside of the city.
Required: swimsuit and towel (no swimming on day 1).
Includes: instruction and transportation.
Urban Outdoor Camps leave the University Campus for most activities to explore what Calgary has to offer. There’s so much to do outside, right within the city limits! Because we’ll be outside most of the time— rain or shine—participants are expected to bring a water bottle, lunch and weather appropriate clothing including a rain jacket and rain pants every day. Additional camp-specific required items are in the details below. Transportation will depend on the camp but may include: cycling, Calgary Transit, walking, or chartered buses.
Get your Lego on at The Director's Cut Lego Stop Motion Animation workshop. Film making crews will work together with a REAL film maker to create a stop-motion animation film that is sure to rival the works of Hollywood's most talented. Small crews will storyboard, script, build. design, capture and add sound effects, titles, voices and music, culminating in your own action packed, dramatically inspired comedy (or whatever you choose your movie to be about!) Participants will also learn how to market their films by creating a website, social media posts and movie posters.
In this camp, the fun-loving little Mini’s will play, discover, and engage in a variety of activities and lessons inspired by our other Mini University camps. This one-week camp is designed to help prepare campers for a full day away from home and practice the daily routine for the upcoming school year. Each day is balanced with a wide variety of indoor and outdoor physical activities such as gymnastics, dance, sports and games. If that wasn’t enough, there is a field trip to Butterfield Acres, which is a great destination to learn about farm animals! Mini U 101 and 102 are taught by different instructors with different lesson plans, so campers can have a new experience if they register for multiple weeks. Mini U 101 is not a prerequisite for 102 so you can register in either one.
Update: At this time, all of our Kinder Kamp programs are full. Due to the extensive waitlist, we encourage you to consider registering your child in our Mini U 101 or 102 camps, as the scheduled activities are very similar to Kinder Kamp.In the prerequisite, it will say it is for kids entering Gr. 1 however all of our camps are flexible by a grade group up or down.
