Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) online training courses required to be completed by ALL University of Calgary Employees, include;
In addition, ALL Managers and Supervisors are required to complete;
Additional training courses provided by EHS can be found below, within the 'EHS Course Listing' dropdown. Completion of such training(s) are determined by your Manager/Supervisor on a Hazard Assessment and Control Form (HACF) for your job description/laboratory/workshop.

Asbestos Awareness Training Online Required training for University Employees completing work activities that may impact or be adjacent to asbestos-containing material. * Optional training for University Employees and students who would like to become informed about asbestos.
Biosafety (Program) Training Online Required training for all University Employees, Supervisors and Managers directing or involved in the handling or storage of biohazards for research and teaching purposes. Optional training for University Employees who would like to become more informed about the Biosafety Program.
Biosafety (Program) Training is a prerequisite.
Online Required training for all University Employees, Supervisors and Managers directly involved in the handling or storage of specific bloodborne pathogens or human cell lines, tissues, body fluids and/or other potentially infectious material that may contain bloodborne pathogens.* Optional training for University Employees who would like to become more informed about bloodborne pathogens.

Biosafety (Biohazard Handling) Training

Biosafety (Program) Training is a prerequisite.

This course is equivalent to prior versions called Biosafety Laboratory Training, Biosafety (Introduction) Training and Biosafety 1.

Classroom Required training for all University Employees, Supervisors and Managers directly involved in the handling or storage of biohazards for research and teaching purposes.*  Optional training for University Employees who would like to become more informed about biohazards in a laboratory setting.
Contractor Accountability to Safety Program (CASP) Classroom Required training for all contracted workers who perform work or intend to perform work on university owned or leased facilities.
Control of Hazardous Energy Online Required training for all University Employees completing work activities that require the use of lock out tag out to control hazardous energy.
Emergency Warden Training Online Required training for all University Employees who are serving as Emergency Wardens and Senior Emergency Wardens.
Hazard Assessment Training Online

Required training for all University Employees, Supervisors and Managers.

Hazard Assessment Workshop Classroom

Designed to assist Supervisors and Managers complete Hazard Assessment and Control Forms (HACF) and Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA). The online Hazard Assessment Training course is a prerequisite an must be completed prior.

Hearing Conservation Training Online Required training for all University Employees who are exposed to noise at or above an 8-hour TWA of 82 dB (or 80 dB TWA for a 12 hour shift) and for university employees who work in areas with noise levels at or above 85 dB. * Optional training for University Employees and students who would like to become informed about hearing conservation.
Incident Reporting and Investigation Training

Online - NEW September 10, 2015

Required training for all Supervisors and Managers, as well as all University Employees who participate in conducting incident investigations. Recommended training for University Employees and students who would like to become informed about their responsibilities for reporting and investigating work-related accidents, incidents, and occupational illnesses.

Laboratory Safety Training

Classroom - NEW March 2016

Required training for all University Employees, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows working in research laboratories.* Optional training for University Employees and students who would like to become informed about laboratory safety practices.

Lab Safety for Non-Lab Employees

Online - NEW May 2016

Required training for all University Employees who are not assigned to a lab but perform work within a lab space.
Ladder Safety Training Online Required training for all University Employees who use portable or fixed ladders for work activities. * Optional training for University Employees and students who would like to become informed about ladder safety.
Laser Safety Training In Lab

Required training for all University Employees and students working with Class 3b & 4 Lasers in University of Calgary facilities or laboratories. *

Occupational Health & Safety Orientation Online Required training for all University Employees, Supervisors and Managers. MUST be completed within the first week of employment.

Existing Employees, Supervisors and Managers are also required to complete this training.

Office Ergonomics Training Online Required training for all University Employees where the majority of work is performed in front of a computer. * Optional training for University Employees and students who would like to become informed about office ergonomics.
Radioactive Material Safety Training Blended Required training for all University Employees and students working with radioisotopes for research and/or teaching purposes. *

(This training does not apply to Gamma cell  users - contact the Radiation Safety Officer at radsafe@ucalgary.ca)

Respiratory Protection Training Online Required training for all University Employees where a respirator has been identified for use during work activities. Completion of this course is a prerequisite for respiratory fit testing. * Optional training University Employees and students who would like to become informed about respiratory protection.
Responding to a Violent Intruder on Campus (formerly 'Lockdown') Classroom ** Recommended training for University Employees and students who would like to learn how to response to a violent intruder situation.
Safe Lifting Training Online Required training for all University Employees who perform manual material handling as a part of work activities.* Optional for University Employees and students who would like to become informed about safe lifting.
Slips, Trips and Falls Prevention Training Online ** Optional training for University Employees and students who would like to become informed about slip, trip and fall prevention.
Spill Response Training Online Required training for all University Employees, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows working with hazardous materials. * Optional training for University Employees and students who would like to become informed about spill response.
Standard First Aid CPR Level C and re-certification Classroom Refer to information and criteria outlined at https://www.ucalgary.ca/safety/first_aid_course
Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certification Online Required training for all University Employees and students who handle, offer for transport, or transport dangerous goods as defined in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Regulations.*
WHMIS 2015 Online Required training for all University Employees, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows working with or near hazardous products as defined by WHMIS 2015 (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) legislation.*
 
WHMIS 2015 training from organizations other than the University of Calgary is NOT recognized.
Optional training for University Employees and students working in areas with NO access to hazardous products but would like to become informed about WHMIS 2015.
Workplace Violence Awareness Training Online ** Optional training for University Employees and students who would like to become informed about workplace violence prevention.
X-Ray Safety Training In lab

Required training for all University Employees and students working with x-ray emitting devices in University of Calgary facilities or laboratories.*

Site-Specific Health & Safety Orientation Checklists

Supervisors and Managers are responsible for completing site-specific health and safety orientation checklists with new and transferred employees (direct reports) to address critical health and safety issues before starting their normal job responsibilities.

Please note, the revised Site-Specific Health & Safety Orientation Checklist is to be used going forward with new hires only. If the checklist has already been completed, there is currently no expectation to re-conduct the orientation with Employees.
