4.4.1 BA in Social and Cultural Anthropology

A. FACULTY OF ARTS REQUIREMENTS

Students must adhere to the applicable Faculty of Arts requirements in 3.4 Graduation.

B. MAJOR-FIELD REQUIREMENTS

Students must successfully complete a minimum of 7.0 and a maximum of 10.0 full-course equivalents in the Field of Anthropology while fulfilling the following requirements:

1. Core: 2.0 full-course equivalents from Anthropology 201, 203, 391 and 411.

2. Ethnography: 1.0 full-course equivalent from: Anthropology 317, 319, 321, 323, 329, 355, 419, 421, and 427.

3. Upper-Year Courses: 1.0 full-course equivalent from Anthropology 402, 405, 419, 421, 427, 467, 479, 501, 523, 541, and 573.

4. Options: 3.0 full-course equivalents from courses labelled Anthropology.

C. DEGREE OPTIONS

The BA in Social and Cultural Anthropology can be taken with Co-operative Education. See section 3.4.5 Co-operative Education Programs for information and requirements.

Notes:

  • Anthropology 419, 421 and 427 may be used to satisfy Requirement 3 if not already used to satisfy Requirement 2.
  • Note that Upper-Year and Ethnography courses may not be offered every year. Planning ahead to ensure completion of these requirements is strongly recommended.
  • Students contemplating applying to enter a graduate program in Anthropology or seeking an applied research position are encouraged to include among their open options a Statistics or Quantitative Methods course.
