This Major is for students with a particular interest in music composition.

A. FACULTY OF ARTS REQUIREMENTS

Students must adhere to the applicable Faculty of Arts requirements in 3.4 Graduation.

B. MAJOR-FIELD REQUIREMENTS AND NORMAL SEQUENCE

The BMus in Composition requires the successful completion of the following program of study, which includes 15.0 to 16.5 full-course equivalents in the Field of Music:

First Year: Common Program for all BMus Majors

  • Music 211, 213 and 225
  • Music 231 and 233
  • Music 221 and 223
  • One of Music Performance 201, 203, 205, 211, 213 or 215
  • 0.5 full-course equivalent in non-Music options
  • 0.5 full-course equivalent in open options
  • Pass piano proficiency examination or successfully complete Music 127
  • One of Music 101, 102, 103 or 104

Second Year

Third Year

  • 0.5 full-course equivalent in Music History and Literature at the 300 level or above
  • Music 441, 443, 445, 447, 451 
  • Music Performance 327
  • 0.5 full-course equivalents in open options at the 300 level or above
  • 1.0 full-course equivalent in non-Music options
