Introduction

The Faculty of Kinesiology with the Faculty of Education offers a five-year combined Bachelor of Kinesiology (Leadership in Pedagogy and Coaching)/Bachelor of Education (Master of Teaching Program) in Physical Education.

Admission

Applicants to the BKin/BEd (Master of Teaching Program) will be admitted after successful completion of listed prerequisites and selection using both qualitative and quantitative criteria. The number of spaces per year is limited to 30 students (15 in the Elementary Route and 15 in the Secondary Route).

The following requirements must be met and will be used as criteria in determining the most suitable candidates for admission and registration in the combined degree program.

1. Only Leadership in Pedagogy and Coaching Majors with a Pedagogy concentration who have completed eight full-course equivalents including Kinesiology 391 (Practicum I) and 2.5 full-course equivalents specific to the major and concentration requirements are eligible to apply.

2. Applicants must present a minimum GPA of 3.00 (see Item 3).

3. Admission to the combined degree program will be determined on the basis of the GPA calculated over the most recent course work to a maximum of five full-course equivalents (University of Calgary courses and/or transferable courses taken at other institutions). All grades within a term will be included except where the number of courses taken within a term exceeds that required to fulfill (to a maximum of) five full-course equivalents, in which case the highest grades will be used.

Students not registering for the Faculty of Education component within that time will be considered to have left the combined degree program and will be considered as Bachelor of Kinesiology students. Any students leaving the combined degree program will revert to enrolment in the Faculty of Kinesiology only and will be responsible for all requirements of that Faculty.

Students must declare their intention to register in the Faculty of Education by the preceding March 15.

Before entering the combined degree program, students are urged to obtain current CPR Certification (Basic Rescuer Certificate) and a current First Aid Certificate. Students are responsible for obtaining training and certification.
