Graduate Assistant Funding (Teaching)

As part of the offer of admission, student's who do not hold a major award will be offered a Graduate Assistant Teaching (GAT) appointment to provide teaching and instructional assistance for courses offered by the Department of Chemistry.

Graduate Assistant Teaching (GAT)

  • GAT duties include lab preparation, lab supervision, marking, attending meetings, and exam invigilation.
  • Students are generally offered teaching in the Fall and Winter terms and the majority of their research will take place in the Spring term
  • The yearly minimum stipend for students who do not hold a major scholarship is $25,890 (2016-17 rates).
  • Students are expected to maintain a satisfactory level of academic performance (minimum GPA of 3.00), as well as satisfactory performance in their duties as a Graduate Assistant Teacher in order to remain eligible for this funding.
