Graduate Student Scholarships

Dr. Don F. Tavares Teaching Award in Chemistry
The Dr. Don F. Tavares Award is awarded to the best Graduate Student Teaching Assistant in the Department of Chemistry on an annual basis. The winner will be chosen by the Department and will be based on student and faculty input, including undergraduate student surveys. The value of the award is $1500.

Bonnie E. King Memorial Graduate Scholarship in Chemistry
Graduate studies in chemistry enable the professional chemist not only to pursue careers in research and development in university, government or private industrial laboratories, but also to adopt leadership positions in the public and private sectors. This award was originally endowed in 1989 under the name, “Department of Chemistry Graduate Scholarship.” In 2013, it was renamed in honour of the department’s long-time graduate program coordinator, Bonnie King, who passed away unexpectedly while still serving in this role. The renaming was in recognition of Bonnie’s exceptional service to the Department of Chemistry and graduate education, especially her commitment to the graduate student population. Bonnie’s professionalism and diligence were only surpassed by her good humour and her compassion for all whose studies, careers and lives she impacted both in and out of the Department of Chemistry.
