Current UofC Unicorn index entries

Browse indexes

Beginning with version 8 of Unicorn, displaying, indexing, and linking ("Like") can be done on the basis of individual subfields. Indexing can be done based on values in the field indicator positions. The lists that follow are specific as to fields and subfields which are accessible in the browse indexes rebuilt after implementation of version 8 in April 1997 and rebuilds of Aug 1998. Further refinement was done before Unicorn 99.4.2 and the summer 2000 rebuilds mainly exclude |6 and doing some split author/title indexing of the 700-711, and 800-811 tags.

Keyword indexes

In the KUNI database (BRS) certain fields have been preassigned to the author, title, series, periodical and subject indexes on delivery. We can assign additional fields to these indexes by careful work in our form.db.

To see which subfields are included in the Keyword indexes, refer to the Unicorn indexing by MARC field numeric tag page.

The AL03 keyword index is our {PIPET} index for title subfields of tags: 700, 710, 711, 800, 810 and 811. The AL04 keyword index is our {720} keyword index for personal name subfields. See details of which subfields this includes by referring to the Unicorn indexing by MARC field numeric tag page.

The following list gives the MARC fields which have been included or excluded from the "General" KEYWORD index. These can be searched either with a field name qualifier in brackets restricting the search to occurences of that search term in the targetted tag alone.

Example: test record {245}

will search for those terms within tag 245 only.

If the same search is done without the qualifier, then the search is done against the FULL list of indexed tags below.

One can also direct a search to target a group of tags by either forming a list such as; {100,110, 245,650} or use the BRS internal tag groupings listed above.

For example: words or phrase ==>BEST {PER}

Other BRS groups are identified as: {SER}, {TI}, {AU}, {SU} and {IMP}--the latter we made as {PUB} for use in elibrary etc.
