Library unix servers

Our older AIX RS6000 servers were replaced in 2002 because I.T. no longer wanted to support MCA bus machines, and the lease price for new aix servers was cheaper than the maintenance on the old machines had been.
  • neter, seter and the hkn replacement were all machines that I.T. already had, and which had been running other applications.

    seter

  • seter.lib.ucalgary.ca is the machine that runs the main library integrated system -- Sirsi's Unicorn system -- it replaced osiris.lib.ucalgary.ca.
  • IP:136.159.86.206.
  • Seter is an IBM RS6000 B80 with 1 GB memory and dual processors. The second processor card was installed by IBM March 26, 2002.
  • aix version 4.3.3.0. SCHEDULED for upgrade to aix5L for June 30, 2003
  • It has 72 GB of newer fast SCSI disk plus 18 GB disk for the root volume group and all the 74 GB of SSA disk that had been on osiris.
  • It is configured as RAID1+0 (mirroring) rather than RAID5 as osiris was.
  • It came online the week of March 25, 2002.
  • seter's aliases are seter.lib.ucalgary.ca, clavis.ucalgary.ca, ra.lib.ucalgary.ca, osiris.lib.ucalgary.ca
  • WEBSERVER: Netscape. Scheduled for switch to apache v1.3.27 May 6, 2003.
  • Unicorn v.2001. SCHEDULED for upgrade to 2002.0.17 on August 20, 2003.

    neter

  • Neter is an IBM RS6000 44P-170 with 512 MB memory.
  • AIX Version:4.3.3.0 [use 'oslevel' to find this out in aix]
  • AIX upgrade to 5L scheduled for May 9, 2003
  • neter.lib.ucalgary.ca is the Sirsi and Allectra test server. It was installed on March 21, 2002 as a replacement for nut, which was an ISA bus machine with not enough diskspace.
  • neter's IP is 136.159.235.209, which was nut's IP previously.
  • Neter has the same schedule of TSM backups as nut had.
  • There are 2 9GB disks and one 70GB disk. The rootvg is on hdisk0 (9GB). The second 9GB disk is probably be a mirror of the rootvg. The 70 GB disk holds /sirsi and /scratch. [Use lspv hdiskX' to look at the physical disk] lscfg for most hardware.
  • Physical partition has been allocated for filesystem in 16M chunks.
  • I asked for /var to be 400MB, /tmp 1GB and /sirsi 30GB. I notice that /bigscratch has about 32 GB in it - can reallocate later I'm sure.
  • Neter was loaded from the March 13 2002 osiris backup for the sirsi stuff. Everything else was loaded from nut during the cloning process around March 20.
  • The sirsi filesystems are /sirsi, /load1, /load2, /load3, /load4, /s, /t, /v, /w, /x, /y, /z. (s,t,v,w,x,y and z are all linked to /sirsi, as in /sirsi/s, /sirsi/t etc.)
  • Last reloaded from seter: will be done May 15, 2003
  • neter's aliases are neter.lib.ucalgary.ca, nut.lib.ucalgary.ca
  • WEBSERVER is apache 1.3.27 installed March 27/2003 as replacement for Netscape.
  • Unicorn upgrade to 2002.0.17 scheduled for May 26, 2003

    HKN

  • The new HKN machine is an IBM RS6000 44P-170 with 512 MB memory and 73 GB disk.
  • This is the server used to access databases from Ovid for both campus and HKN services.
  • the machine is called hkn.lib.ucalgary.ca
  • It came onstream March 26, 2002
  • IP:136.159.235.208

    Horus

  • horus.lib.ucalgary.ca is the machine used to run the Allectra system, and it has some backup files from Osiris, and it runs the webserver for OvidWeb v7.8 for HKN.
  • It came onstream in March of 1999.
  • IP:136.159.235.211
  • It is an IBM RS6000 H50 with 512 MB ram and 52 GB diskspace.
  • Aix version 4.3.3.
  • SCHEDULED for apache upgrade from 1.3.11 to 1.3.27 on May 6, 2003.

    ERL

  • This server is now used only for the popmail application for the library's document delivery system.
  • It is an IBM RS6000 F30 with 288 MB ram and 36+2 GB diskspace.
  • It is now running aix 4.3.3.
  • IP:136.159.235.207
  • erl's aliases are erl.lib.ucalgary.ca, isis.lib.ucalgary.ca

    EXTINCT SERVERS

    Nut

  • nut.lib.ucalgary.ca was the old test server for Sirsi's Unicorn system.
  • The machine came onstream on Nov.12, 1998, and was taken off IBM maintenance on April 1, 2002.
  • It was an IBM RS6000 43P with 256 MB ram and 41 GB diskspace.
  • The 5 GB 8 mm. tape drive was taken off maintenance and not moved to neter because there are a couple of other portable tape drives available.
  • IP:136.159.235.209: This IP reallocated to neter.

    Osiris

osiris.lib.ucalgary.ca was the old server for the Library's integrated library system -- Sirsi's Unicorn System.
This server was be replaced with seter on April 24, 2002.
Osiris was an IBM RS6000 R50 with 1 GB of RAM and 72 GB of SSA disk.
It had two disk controllers, one Raid5 and one non-Raid.

    BRS version 6.2
    Unicorn version 99.4.2
    IP:136.159.86.205
