University of Calgary Library Search URLs
One can embed a search argument in an iLink URL. This search argument is processed by a CGI script and iLink makes a dynamic response, returning whatever records are in the catalog at the time of the search.
Quick or Simple searches:
- KW (Keyword or Search ALL) which will search all indexed fields (same as iLink's SEARCH ALL). Note that searches can be limited to specific field by follwoing the search statement with a MARC tag number in curly brackes; eg. {245}. The following qualifiers can also be used: {AU}, {TI}, {MESH}, {SUBJ}, {AU}, {PER}, and {SER}. To see what tags are indexed in each of these qualifiers.
- TI (Title keyword) which searches all fields defined by the TI keyword synonym
- AU (Author) which searches all fields defined by the AU keyword synonym
- MESH (Mesh keyword) which searches all fields defined by the MESH keyword synonym
- SUBJ (Subj keyword) which searches all fields defined by the SUBJ keyword synonym
- ISSN is a specific search of the 022 MARC tag.
- NOTE: that a search term that does NOT get hits will give you unexpected results as shown by this search http://sirsi1.lib.ucalgary.ca/uhtbin/SUBJ/horse+ranch
- Search statements may not contain spaces use a plus sign instead of a space as shown in the examples above. Boolean operators, such as AND, OR, NOT, may be used. The default search operator is SAME (works as an AND within the same field). The wildcard symbol $ (multiple character substitution) is allowed but a single truncation symbol of a ? is NOT allowed at this time in a iLink URL search since ? is a reserved character in the URL standard.
Advanced Searches Using Raw URLs
- The easiest way to build advanced urls for UofC library iLink is to use this program. Advanced searches have many qualifiers and the urls grow to be very long. If any values you require are not in the drop down lists, contact N.Lall so the program can be updated.
Browse searches
- Use the same program above to create call number browse urls.
