Biography

Tong joined the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, at the University of Calgary as a Post-doctoral Fellow in September 2016. He is employed by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC). Tong received his PhD in Veterinary Parasitology at University of Bristol, UK. Both of his PhD and postdoc project are closely related to animal husbandry, aiming to have a detailed understanding between climatic factors and parasites in livestock.

Working under the supervision of Dr. John Gilleard and Dr. Doug Colwell, Tong’s current project focus on overwinter of bovine nematode. In particular, he is investigating the extent to which different Strongylidae species viably overwinter on pasture and establish spring infections in western Canada. Studies are conducted by combining field work with molecular and quantitive genetic approaches.
