About Active Living

Active Living

Welcome to Active Living! Each year Active Living provides instruction and access to students, staff, and our public community of all ages.

The University of Calgary’s Active Living department is one of the largest and most diverse recreation departments based on a North American campus. Active Living has a team of 40 full time and up to 600 part time staff. On an annual basis our staff handle 47,000 registrations in over 75 recreational and sporting activities, and the Outdoor Centre processes 16,000 outdoor equipment rental orders. Each year we provide general access to over a million users of our facilities: North America's largest Outdoor Centre with climbing and bouldering walls, a gymnastics center, an Olympic sized pool, a fitness center with 200 m track, Canada’s largest university racquet center, five gymnasiums and access to the Olympic Oval.

Active Living’s team provides its services to the community while charging our students one of the lowest recreation fees and maintaining a self-funded annual budget. It provided these benefits through successfully achieving Active Living’s mission to our community by enriching lives by providing quality programming and educational experiences which promote and encourage livelong active living for all.

We believe there truly is something for everyone and want to help you find it!

Pick up a copy of our Active Living Programs for Adults including Intramural and Club Sports Guide, Outdoor Centre Program Guide, and Active Kids Guide for instructional programs and courses available to you and your family. (Program Guides are available for download here).

Our programming is accessible to everyone whether you have a membership or not. However to access our facilities outside of programs, you must be either a member or purchase an admission pass. For more information about finding us and parking around the University, visit the Maps & Location page.
