Zanete Andersone-Lilley

Zanete Andersone-Lilley, PhD studied wolves in Latvia since 1993, her PhD thesis being the first comprehensive scientific study of the wolf population in Latvia. She obtained her PhD in Biology in 2002 from the University of Latvia after having spent four months as a scholar at the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA), Trondheim. During mid-1990s she also got involved in the research of the Eurasian lynx and brown bear in the Baltic. Dr Andersone-Lilley has contributed to the Latvian Action plans for wolves, lynx and bear and authored a number of scientific and popular articles on large carnivore ecology, genetics and human dimensions. She is involved in the Large Carnivore Initiative for Europe and has facilitated creation of the Baltic Large Carnivore Initiative that brought together researchers from the region. Dr Andersone-Lilley is also a member of the International Union of Game Biologists.

Zanete has recently been managing the Latvian part of the international research project “Large carnivores in northern landscapes: an interdisciplinary approach to their regional conservation” funded by The Research Council of Norway. In the past, Zanete worked for the Kemeri National Park (Latvia), WWF-Latvia, Latvian Fund for Nature, Latvian State Forest Research Institute “Silava” and most recently as a Senior Scientific Advisor for the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (UK). She has recently moved to Norway.
