EDITOR’S NOTE: The community consultation for Energizing Eyes High is now complete. Thank you to everyone in the campus community who took part. Read the UToday article about the wrap-up of the consultation process, or view a slideshow summarizing the results of all 11 online polls.
We’re nearing the halfway point in the consultation process to energize Eyes High. More than 4,000 students, faculty, staff, Board and Senate members, alumni and community members have shared their ideas on the future of the university. They’ve participated in the online survey and focus groups, visited a roving booth, completed the online poll and sent comments to firstname.lastname@example.org.
“The feedback coming out of the focus groups is that participants not only had fun and the time flew by fast, but more importantly, they left with a better understanding of the Eyes High strategy and how they have contributed to the university’s success,” says Loren Falkenberg, associate dean, research, from the Haskayne School of Business who is chairing the Energizing Eyes High Secretariat. “It is important to hear from the broad community so the strategy can be refined. Feedback so far has been extremely thoughtful and useful.”
More than 1,900 people have completed the online survey, many taking the time to provide detailed comments:
“I think we have good leadership, strong representation from women and diverse minorities, and a focus on transparency and accountability,” wrote one survey respondent.
“It seems there is lots of collaboration between federal agencies and large corporation(s), but it would be good to see collaboration on a smaller/local scale between the university and smaller local businesses or organizations,” wrote another respondent.
Last week, 61 students won $10 Mac Hall food vouchers for participating in the online survey and focus groups. Vouchers can be picked up in MLB 325 on Mondays and Fridays.
More than 1,000 people have participated in the online polls over the past three weeks.

What happens next?
Feedback will help focus UCalgary priorities and impact funding decisions going forward. Once the consultation feedback is collected and analyzed, a refined strategic direction will move through our governance bodies – the General Faculties Council and the Board of Governors – before it is launched in spring 2017.
