Before You Start Your First Year Nursing at U of C

Before you start your first year nursing at U of C there are a few things you will need to take care of.

bullet First of all, you need to ensure all your immunizations are up to date before you start clinical.  To find out about your immunization record, contact a community health centre (listings at the link below) and for more information call the Health Link at 943-LINK (5465)

If you have any questions regarding your immunizations contact: Crystal at CHNU@ucalgary.ca

bullet You will also have to get a security check done.  For this you need to go in person to the Calgary Police Administration Building at 316 7 Avenue SE.  You will need to bring 2 pieces of government ID, and at least one piece of photo ID.  Make sure you start the process at least 3 weeks before starting the program, because it can take over 2 weeks to receive your clearance.
bullet Telephone: 403-206-2052
bullet Hours of Operation:
Monday 7:30 AM-4:00 PM
Tuesday 7:30 AM-4:00 PM
Wednesday 7:30 AM-4:00 PM
Thursday 7:30 AM-4:00 PM
Friday 7:30 AM-4:00 PM

bullet It is also really important to get your CPR certification before you start clinical in January.  The U of C usually offers CPR classes in September/October.  Watch for the signs around the nursing faculty.  Other wise you can take you basic rescuer CPR through Red Cross or St. Johns or call SAIT.  You can also contact any City of Calgary swimming pool and hire a life guard to teach you if you missed out.
