Nursing Attendant (NA) Work
After your first year of nursing education you are qualified to work as a Nursing Attendant for the Calgary Health Region. Many nursing homes and senior’s residences in the city will regularly hire student nurses as nursing attendants after their first year nursing education. Your best bet for looking to be hired as an NA is to go directly to the residence you would like to work at and find out what their application process is. Some hospital units hire students after their first year, but some prefer you to have two years of nursing experience before hiring you as an NA. Your best bet is to talk to a patient care manager on a unit where you have had a practicum, or a manager on a nursing unit you would like to work at to find out if they hire students as NAs.
