Events and Cabarets
Cabarets: In the past, we have entertained the idea of visiting multiple venues (i.e. Cowboys, Roadhouse, etc). All of them offer opportunities for cabs, but the one we have had most consistently well attended is the annual fall one at the Den. Doing it on campus means we do not have to carry any extra insurance as we are a sanctioned Students' Union club. They also allow us to sell tickets at the door (which most other bars don't), and therefore we are able to use the cab as our one-time fundraiser for the year. There are operating costs associated with the UNS that are not covered by memberships (nursing week, donations to flu clinic, Professional Development fund, etc) and we must raise funds for it somehow. Usually one member suggests a theme or place and we vote on it, majority wins!
The Den is also an easy place for us to hold a joint cab with other faculties (medicine and engineering are always interested in combined parties...medicine for obvious reasons and engineering for others!), and we tend do donate some of the proceeds to a charity or organization. We are always open to entertaining ideas for other events, and other areas, however we have found that this works best for us.
As far as ticket prices, in the past, we have offered discounts for UNS members. However, since becoming a UNS member is essentially mandatory, we decided to do away with the multiple levels of pricing making it a good deal for everyone (no longer $7 at the door, either). Usually $3 or $5.
