How to Use Blackboard

Knowing how to use blackboard is essential to your nursing education.   You will need to know how to access course documents, lecture notes, and use the discussion boards.

First you need an IT account to log in, go to www.ucalgary.ca/it/accounts for more info on how to set up your own.  This will enable you to use your U of C email account, blackboard and MyUofC.

Log in to blackboard through:  http://blackboard.ucalgary.ca  (note: no www in front of the address, this is the most common mistake)

From the mainpage search through your courses, the announcements, groups, lecture notes on discussion boards by using the course names, and the tool bars down the left side of the screen.

A few quick tips on printing lecture notes: If are having difficulty printing PowerPoint presentations directly from blackboard, try saving it on the computer first (i.e. on the desktop), and then open the presentation and print as necessary. Just make sure to delete it from the computer if you are using a public computer on campus. We would recommend printing most lecture with 3-6 slides per page (depending on how much space you need to take additional) and in black and white to save ink.

You will also find a link to the Student Blackboard Manual that our Technical/Web Coordinator has put together in every Blackboard course.

If you forgot you password, you need to go to the help desk on the 7th floor of the Math Sciences building from 8:00 am -5:00 pm or to Service desk at the Info commons on the 2nd floor of MacKimmie Library Block from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm and the IT staff can reset your password, but remember to bring photo ID.
