Location: Danish Canadian Club

  1. Maurice called the meeting to order.
  2. Maurice presented the Treasurer’s report for Alan Walker, who arrived late due to schedule conflicts. The Calgary section did very well due to the fact that meeting notices are done mainly by email, and that we didn’t have a conference this year. We lost approximately $50 on lunches, which as Maurice mentioned, is good value for the convenience this offers. The budget for next year is approximately a $400 deficit, to cover a planned mini-conference. I will send out the detailed report later.
  3. Neil Barnes presented the Secretary’s report. He updated the Service Record to track the various volunteers’ contributions to the local chapter over the last 3 years. He mentioned that the decision was made to put documents such as meeting minutes on the web site, but the security details have not yet been finalized. He also thanked Neil Robinson for his help in sending out notices this past year.
  4. Neil Robinson presented the Program Director’s report. He reviewed the 8 speaker’s for the year, which were:
  5. Tom Morrison - September

    Gordon Salahor - October

    Maurice Elliot - November

    Robert (Bob) Dawson — January

    Neil Robinson - February

    Murray Howland - March

    Dr. Pramod Kanchan - April

    Neil McKendrick - May

  6. Cor commented on the status of the Calgary section web site. He will register the domain name of www.CORSCALGARY.ab.ca, with Maurice Elliot as the contact person.
  7. John Heffer mentioned that he will follow up with trying to get a speaker from the Calgary Math Society.
  8. Maurice thanked this year’s executive on a job well done. The Calgary section is doing very well, we average around 17 people attending each meeting. At the national conference, he discovered that we are one of the strongest sections in the country, after Toronto and Montreal.
  9. Nominations were opened for positions on the new council. A maximum of eight positions are available. The nominees that had been approached prior to the meeting were:
  10. Maurice Elliott — past president

    Tom Morrison - president

    Neil Barnes

    Neil Robinson

    Cornelis van de Panne

    Craddock Spence

    Van Enns

    Thorn Walden

The positions on the executive will be selected at the first executive meeting, which Tom called to be on Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at 12:00 noon in his office (#815, 706 — 7 Ave. SW, ph 262-8160).

  11. Tom Morrison spoke briefly about the next season. He suggested that rather than burdening the program director with hitting up all his friends, that the executive share in the job of finding speakers for next year’s program. He also suggested some of the benefits of speaking at a CORS meeting, which include
