Dr. Kanchan was born and educated in India. He obtained his Ph.D. at the at the Samsat Ashok Technologicasl Institute in Vidisha. In 1981 he spent a number of months in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the U. of C. and coauthored a paper on mathematical programming with Dr. van de Panne. He has worked for twenty years at the Central Road Institute, most recently on the subject of road maintenance. Currently he is visiting Calgary while on an extended leave from his Indian employment.
