Cultural and Personal Advising
Writing Symbols Lodge is dedicated to supporting and promoting the beauty, vitality and diversity of Indigenous cultures within the University community.
Cultural and Spiritual Advising
Writing Symbols Lodge provides opportunities for Indigenous students to seek one-on-one and personal support through culturally-based community experts. Writing Symbols Lodge works with a cultural advisor and a culturally-based Integrative Therapist/Social Worker.
Kerrie Moore, an Integrative Therapist/Social Worker, is available to meet with students one Tuesday per month. Students can sign up for one-hour appointments with Joel English-Dubois, 403.220.3091, to meet with Kerrie.
Our cultural events and specialized support services help to build and enrich the diversity of the whole campus community. Writing Symbols Lodge invites students, faculty and staff to attend and participate in our events, which include:
- Pipe ceremonies
- Social gatherings
- Cree Grandmothers' Tea Ceremonies
- Indigenous Awareness Week (AAW)
- Annual Indigenous Graduation Banquet and Pow-wow
- Women's Sage Picking Ceremony
- Men's ceremonies
- Cultural crafting
- Elder Circles
Additionally, ii'tah'poh'to'p, UCalgary's Indigenous Strategy, offers events to enrich the campus community.
