Study with your peers

The Study Group Program is designed to support students in locating and participating in in-person or online, collaborative, peer-to-peer study groups. Study Group Peer Helpers volunteer to initiate and maintain structured study groups in a variety of formats throughout the term.

Study Group Peer Helpers organize and promote weekly study group sessions that can help you:

  • Stay focused in a structured study environment
  • Collaboratively set a study goal each week with their peers
  • Establish a weekly study routine to review course material
  • Support your wellbeing by connecting with other students
  • Learn about campus resources

Study Groups are offered in a variety of different formats, course-based, program-based, open study sessions and first-year study groups. To help you find the study group format that might work best for you, read the descriptions below.

Study group schedule

Interested in finding some other students in your courses to study with? Course-based study groups are facilitated by student volunteers who are enrolled in the study group course. Each week, volunteers set up study sessions for interested students in their class, facilitate the group’s study goal for each session and help to create a friendly and inclusive online learning environment.

Do you study more effectively when others around you are studying? Do you find it helpful to have a structured pattern of studying and taking breaks? If so, you might find our open virtual study groups helpful. In these 1.5-hour sessions peer volunteers will help you set a goal for your study session and implement a study/break cycle for an effective and productive study session. As students in the second year or beyond, peer volunteers will share a weekly study tip or two to add to your study toolkit.

If you're a first-year student interested in getting in some productive study time while getting to know other students in your first-year cohort, we recommend trying a weekly first-year study group.

In these 1.5 hour sessions, peer volunteers will help you and other first-year students set a goal for your study session and implement a study/break cycle for an effective and productive study session. As students in the second year or beyond, peer volunteers will share a weekly study tip or two to add to your study toolkit. This is also a great space to ask questions about the university and find out about helpful campus resources.
