Biography

Liana is a software engineering student working to support women entering STEM.

She has worked with the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) to host events targeted at women looking to enter STEM. Her work has been both as a volunteer member and as a facilitator, bringing in female speakers from NASA. Currently she is engaged with Motivate(Her): a podcast used to highlight women in prominent leadership positions in all industries.

In her second year, Liana co-founded and is managing Calgary CubeSat: an engineering club dedicated to designing and building nano-satellites from scratch, with their first launch in 2023. The team is working with UCalgary researchers as a cost effective way to test innovative engineering instrumentation and materials.

She has also been engaged in research since first year, working on machine learning, photogrammetry, and aerospace testing. She now has a publication under review, summarizing the benefits of self-adapting algorithms in traffic signal control.

In addition to her extracurriculars and academic activities, Liana plays as a goalkeeper in soccer, grows her various house plants, and explores digital art.
