Biography

A passion in chemistry originated from middle school has led Emily to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at the University of Calgary (UCalgary). Prior to UCalgary, Emily studied at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) for a diploma in Chemical Laboratory Technology. After SAIT, she worked in the field of chemistry as a research intern and a quality control lab technician for almost a year before attending UCalgary.

During her studies, Emily developed an interest in chemistry research. At UCalgary, Emily conducted a research project using analytical instrument to investigate the bioinorganic chemistry of cadmium under bloodstream conditions. This year she will be participating in another research project in the field of medicinal chemistry that involves the synthesis of hypervalent iodine catalysts.

Outside of school, Emily loves to volunteer at different organizations that provide support to the vulnerable communities. She is active in Best Buddies University of Calgary Chapter as VP Communications and student buddy, Operation Imagination YYC as VP Operations, and her church as a serving one for high school students and preschool children.

In Emily’s free time, she likes to crochet, sew, and make cards. She also enjoys playing with her dog, badminton, and meeting new people!
