Career Services uses assessment tools to help you get to know yourself, your strengths and your interests. What are the differences with these assessment tools?


CliftonStrengths® is based on positive psychology and focuses solely on your unique strengths, and in particular your “Top 5” themes of talent. It helps to identify the sources of your strengths, to understand behaviours and to consider how your strengths contribute to your personal brand. It also gives the opportunity to build on your greatest talents, and develop an individualized plan to discover and develop strengths for your academics, career and beyond.

To register for CliftonStrengths®, go to and create an account using your email. Once completed, it is suggested that you book an appointment with a Career Development Specialist to go over your results.

The Strong Interest Inventory®

The Strong Interest Inventory® is used to measure and describe interests in a broad range of occupations, work and leisure activities and educational subjects. It helps you gain a greater understanding of your preferences, and helps in identifying potential career paths and education or training in-line with your interests. It also identifies academic or work environments that may be a good fit.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI)

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI) is used to measure and describe your individual preferences for how you like to get information, make decisions and orient your life. You can use the information to better understand yourself, motivations, potential strengths and possible career or academic paths that align with your personality type. It will also help you to better communicate and collaborate with others. 

To register for the Strong Interest Inventory® or Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI), visit CareerLink to select the assessment(s) and pay via credit card. If you are unable to pay by credit card, email to make alternate arrangements. There is a fee for the Strong Interest Inventory® and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI) to cover the costs of the formal report and accompanying booklet received.

Intercultural Development Inventory® (IDI®)

Intercultural Development Inventory® (IDI®) assesses your level of intercultural competence which is your ability to shift cultural perspective and appropriately adapt your behavior to various cultural differences and commonalities. Intercultural competence is a critical component in being an effective team member in today’s increasingly diverse workforce. Your results are reviewed and related to your own experience in an individualized coaching meeting which will prepare you to more effectively engage with peers or colleagues from various cultural backgrounds.

Intercultural Conflict Style Inventory® (ICI®)

In a diverse post-secondary and workplace settings, your ability to recognize and respond to cultural differences in communication and conflict is critically important. The (ICS®) provides you with insight into both your approach for solving disagreements as well as those preferred by others of different cultural backgrounds. The assessment is only offered to graduate students registered for the Intercultural Conflict Resolution workshop offered in the fall and winter semesters.
