Links of Interests
Dr. Markus Dann has been an assistant professor in the department of civil engineering at the University of Calgary since May 2014. He graduated with distinction in civil engineering from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. He joined Dr. Marc Maes’ risk and reliability research group at the University of Calgary in September 2007 as a research assistant to work on Hierarchical Bayes Models. He received his PhD in civil engineering from the University of Calgary in 2011. Afterwards, Markus continued his academic career in the same research group as a post-doc. In 2012, he joined Chevron ETC in Aberdeen, UK, as a reliability and integrity engineer to perform fitness-for-service assessments for pipelines and conduct research on pipeline integrity and risk assessment. In his current position at the University of Calgary, Markus enjoys teaching undergraduate and graduate students in engineering. His research focuses on reliability and risk assessment of pipelines, decision making, risk-based inspection planning, and probabilistic data analysis.
Dr. Dann’s research interests include:
- Reliability and risk assessment of structures and pipelines
- Decision making under uncertainty
- Probabilistic modeling of structural deterioration
- Bayesian data analysis
