Governor General's Gold Medal (Doctoral)
After completing a Bachelor of Science in physics at the University of Calgary, Matthew continued the nanophotonics research as a PhD student. During his graduate career, he developed nanofabrication techniques for building devices out of lab-grown diamonds.

Gustavo Queiroz

Governor General's Gold Medal (Master's)
Since his undergraduate degree in geology, Gus has been interested in scientific research and computer programming applied to geographical information systems. Gus came to Canada from Brazil for a one-year exchange program at the University of Calgary, where he also worked as a research assistant in the geography department.

Neilen Rasiah

Chancellor's Graduate Medal (Doctoral)
After completing a Bachelor of Science degree in 2014, Neil began his graduate training at the Hotchkiss Brain Institute. He applied both classic and cutting-edge techniques to interrogate a population of neurons in the hypothalamus.

Emily Boak

Emily Boak graduated from the Faculty of Arts with a Master of Arts in Anthropology in June. Her research focused on the historical and ongoing use of the aerial perspective by foreign powers in visualizing and understanding Afghanistan.

Gillian Coulton is graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (honours). Coulton’s thesis dealt with isolation and anxiety, themes she conveyed using surreal and landscape imagery that referenced the rural Alberta setting she grew up in.
