How to Chromecast the virtual celebration
Make sure your Chromecast is connected to your Wi-Fi network
Within the ‘Google Home’ app, go to Add - Set up device - Set up new devices and follow the instructions.
Using a desktop computer
- Open Chrome, select the three dots for the More menu, then Cast. Choose the Chromecast destination device, and then Sources to access the entire screen option to broadcast what’s showing on your screen and the TV.
- Make sure Chrome is left running and open in the background for both of these options to allow the casting to work.
Using an Android
- Open the Settings app within your phone, then go to Connected Devices-Cast. Your Chromecast device will pop up for you to select.
Using an iPhone
- If the app you’re using supports Chromecast, please select the small TV button that appears on the home screen of the app. This’ll show you your available Chromecast options.
Your faculty may be hosting a Zoom celebration in addition to the main virtual ceremony. Below is some information to ensure you’re set up.
Make sure you have an account with Zoom, and this can be set up for free using either your desktop or smartphone.
For a desktop computer
Visit https://zoom.us/ and click the ‘Sign Up’ button. You’ll go through a verification process and need to provide an email address. Zoom will use the email address you provide to send a verification email. Access this email from Zoom within your inbox to sign in.
For a smartphone
You can go to the App Store (iPhone) or the Play Store (Android) and download the Zoom app. This app will have a similar sign in process to the desktop computer instructions above. You’ll be able to sign in after your email is confirmed.
Joining a faculty event
If your faculty emails you a meeting link, you can access the meeting by clicking directly on the link or pasting it into an internet browser.
If your faculty has emailed you a meeting ID, you will select the “Join a meeting” option within Zoom. From there, paste the Meeting ID, name and password (if applicable). Select “Join a meeting” when prompted.
