Message to the campus community

Last Thursday the provincial government announced a number of targeted measures to control the spread of COVID-19. Post-secondary classes are exempt from the new COVID restrictions and these measures will not affect our in-class instruction at this time. Changes to our sports programs and fitness facilities are outlined below.

Please remember the best methods to prevent the spread of COVID-19 include maintaining a two-metre distance from others at all times, wearing a mask, and frequent hand washing. These methods must be used together to provide layered protection.

Kinesiology Complex update

Following a review of the recent changes to the provincial restrictions for sport and recreation activities, all current on-site Active Living programming and lessons have been suspended or cancelled until end of day Nov. 27.

These activities include intramural and sport programs, swimming lessons and bookings, Racquet Centre programs and bookings, and the University of Calgary Gymnastics Centre programs and bookings. All registered clients will have received direct communications from the program coordinators.

In addition, all sport cohort training, including Dinos varsity and club team activity, will cease on the University of Calgary campus and off campus until further notice.

Facilities open

The Olympic Oval will be open for individual training sessions only by users permitted to use the facility. These individuals have already been notified.

The Fitness Centre (for students and staff), Outdoor Centre programs and rentals and the Cochrane Gymnastics Centre remain open. Active Living virtual programs are available for registration.

All users in the Kinesiology Complex will have to comply with all Alberta Health Services and University of Calgary guidelines.

Campus visitors

To maintain a safe campus community it is important that people we invite to campus follow the university’s COVID-19 protocols. It is also important that visitors follow rules that are contained in the workspace safety plan for the area they are visiting (if applicable) and that we have a record of who came to campus and where they visited.

To provide for safe visits to our campuses, please do the following:.

The visitors who should be included in this process include anybody who is invited to one of our campuses regardless of the purpose of the visit. The process applies to consultants and contractors who come to our campus to carry out work. It also applies to vendors, volunteers, guest speakers, and patient research participants.

This COVID-19 related guidance for visitors does not change the previously existing guidance for visitors that is posted on the Human Resources and Risk Management and Insurance websites.

Please note that if the visitor will be entering a laboratory, the Visitors Accessing Lab Standard should be followed.

Updated resources

The university has updated the Return to Campus FAQ for leaders.  Please take a moment to review.

Dashboard and isolation guideline

We are monitoring the COVID-19 situation carefully, and the COVID-19 dashboard is the best place to get updated information on campus cases.  We would like to remind our campus community to review the isolation guidelines for employees and students which include a guide of when to come on campus.  If you are feeling sick, please do not come to campus.
