UToday HomeMay 8, 2012

The Department of Music in the Faculty of Arts is proud to present Contrasts—the 8th Annual University of Calgary Chamber Music Festival running May 25, 27, June 1 & 3, 2012 at the Eckhardt-Gramatté Concert Hall in the Rozsa Centre. All concerts start at 8 p.m.

CONTRASTS showcases diverse musical styles with a repertoire ranging from jazz and classical music to improvisation, gypsy music and Canadian compositions. Instruments as varied as the bouzouki, marimba, piano, flute, guitar, saxophone, and string quartet, will inspire and enchant listeners with a wide palette of instrumental colours.

The repertoire will include the Calgary premiere of a violin duo by Canadian composer Gerhard Wuensch, as well as a work by former faculty composer Richard Johnston, who passed away in 1997. The festival will feature the UCalgary String Quartet, members of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, University of Calgary and Beijing Conservatory music faculty, alumni and other guests. The Legend Piano Trio will be traveling from Beijing, China for the June 1 concert.

All performances take place at 8 p.m. in the Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall, Rozsa Centre. Single tickets are $12, festival passes are $25 and can be purchased at the door.
