Get your Olympic fix

With all the technology on display at the Taylor Family Digital Library, the decision to display coverage of the London 2012 Olympic Games was an easy one to make for Donna Livingstone.

The Libraries and Cultural Resources’ director of cultural and community programs was the inspiration to broadcast the Summer Games continuously on the large digital media walls on the main and second floors of TFDL during hours of operation.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for us to further test our broadcast capabilities on the screens, and to celebrate the involvement of some of our staff and alumni in the Games,” says Livingstone.

The media walls are hard to miss. Comprised of eight 1080p HD TVs, the screens offer a total viewing area of approximately 13x4 feet. When not showing Games coverage, they can display information from USB memory keys, manipulate it on a multi-touch lecturn and save their work back to USB. It’s got a built-in web browser and each TV can even host a gaming console or other external video source.

Olympic coverage on campus can also be seen at the Olympic Oval’s new London Lounge. From July 27-Aug. 12, the main floor Oval lounge will offer TV viewing, highlighting Calgary-trained athletes and Dinos connections competing for medals overseas.
