Supporting undergrad research

UToday HomeJanuary 9, 2012

PURE is now taking applications for financial awards for undergraduates to conduct research for 8, 12 or 16 weeks between May and August.

PURE applicants must have faculty supervisors for their proposed research projects, and supervisors must submit references as part of the application process.

The deadline for online applications and references is Feb. 10.

The Program for Undergraduate Research Experience (PURE) is an initiative of the University Teaching and Learning Funding Committee. Bill Rosehart, chair, believes that undergraduate students are presented with invaluable learning opportunities when they undertake research early in their studies.

“The University of Calgary is a research intensive university, which places significant value on the entire undergraduate experience,” says Rosehart. “In this regard, the PURE awards give undergraduate students the opportunity to work and develop research skills under the mentorship of national and world research leaders.”

PURE research support is for students in any year of their undergraduate careers, and applications from students in the early stages of their programs are strongly encouraged (read about past recipients).
