Chinese language skills

In December, the Germanic, Slavic and East Asian studies department hosted the eighth annual University of Calgary Chinese Language Skills Contest. This event has become the most important venue for students to showcase their achievements in Chinese study.

This year, for the first time, the competition focused on writing. All students studying Chinese at the U of C participated in the competition. The participants were divided into six groups. Three winners and four finalists were selected from each group.

The awards portion of the competition took place Friday, Dec. 10. The first-place winners of each of the six groups orally presented their writings to the audience. The ceremony included performances of Chinese songs and music.

In addition, the Germanic, Slavic and East Asian studies department presented awards to the test-takers of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), which was offered city-wide. Representatives from the Calgary Chinese Private School joined to celebrate the success of their students who wrote the HSK test.
