University of Calgary Archives completes work on core set of equity, diversity and inclusion records

Cultural Diversity Institute's records provide a history for current diversity policies and initiatives

Jun. 30, 2022 CALGARY, AB

The University of Calgary Archives recently completed the arrangement and description of a core set of records from the Cultural Diversity Institute (CDI). Established in 1998, the Institute was a partnership between the University of Calgary and the Government of Alberta.

The Institute’s mandate was to “support individuals and organizations in public, private sector and not-for-profit activities in Alberta which are inclusive, fair, equitable and respectful of cultural diversity”. CDI achieved its mandate by providing up-to-date information on cultural diversity, developing learning and collaborative networks, and facilitating the provision of training and educational programs.

The Institute closed in 2004 and transferred its print and video resource materials to the University Library. The CDI records provide both a history for current diversity policies and initiatives, and a continuum of experience that students, staff, and the broader research communities can now access and learn from.

This project was funded by an Archives Society of Alberta Access to Holdings grant.
