United Way Fun Walk and Run fundraiser

Werklund School to host event in support of United Way Annual Campaign

The Werklund School of Education will be hosting the second annual United Way 2.5 and 5 km fun run and walk on Friday, October 13.

Co-chairs Angela Crowley and Jim Brandon say they chose to continue with the run for several reasons.

“This type of event is a good fit with the Werklund School of Education’s collective wellness theme and was a big hit last year — a real team builder,” explains Brandon.

“Our hope is that this fundraiser grows and becomes bigger every year through participation from other faculties,” adds Crowley.

The 2016 run drew 75 entrants from across campus and resulted in nearly $7000 being raised in support of United Way.

“Last year’s outing was wonderful. Our red t-shirted, enthusiastic and rosy cheeked masses had a terrific time,” says Brandon.

The organizers encourage people of all fitness levels to join in this year’s event.

“Whether you’re a walker, runner or even an Olympic athlete, you’re welcome to participate. It’s a great chance to raise money while getting some fresh air and exercise. You’ll definitely come away with the sense that we are all Calgary!” says Crowley.

The fundraiser will begin at noon at the Swann Mall.

Registration is open and donations are being accepted. All proceeds will go towards the University of Calgary's United Way fundraising goals for 2017. The first 50 registrants will receive a race t-shirt.
