LRC Hosts Roundtable Discussion on Language Education and Research

Fostering collaboration between researchers and school boards

Roundtable discussion on K-16+ collaboration on language education and research

On September 6, 2019, the Language Research Centre hosted a roundtable discussion on fostering collaboration between researchers and school boards. Graduate students and faculty members from the Faculty of Education and the School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures were joined in person by colleagues from the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School Board and virtually by colleagues from the Institution for Innovation in Second Language Education at the Edmonton Public School Board. The discussion focused on laying out challenges faced in language classrooms and possibilities for working together to address the challenges. Ultimately, participants determined that practical research, or results presented in an accessible manner, would be a useful way to disseminate the results of research. As we move ahead, it was determined that research can begin on basis of the teachers' needs and interests. Future meetings will be scheduled to further the discussions.
