The Embedded Certificate in Entrepreneurial Thinking and the Embedded Certificate in Leadership Studies will support student learning and growth in two key areas for the university. Embedded certificates allow students to explore other areas of interest within their degree.

Embedded certificates are credentials comprised of 12-24 units (typically four to eight courses) taken concurrently with a degree program. Most embedded certificates can be completed within a student’s degree requirements.

“Around a year ago, I completed the Sustainability Studies Embedded Certificate. Embedded certificates go in depth to draw out core concepts while using applied and collaborative learning,” says Rachneet Randhawa, a Social and Cultural Anthropology student in her final year at UCalgary.

“We did everything from meeting sustainability guest speakers from non-profits, NGOS and industry, to participating in a Mimicry design challenge and helping to propose policy for the City of Calgary’s Office of Sustainability. Embedded certificates serve as a best-of-both-worlds mix of academia and applied learning.”

In addition to the Entrepreneurial Thinking and Leadership Studies Embedded Certificates, the University of Calgary also offers Embedded Certificates in Creative Writing, Sustainability Studies and Mental Wellbeing and Resilience for students to enhance their degree programs.
