A holiday message from President McCauley
As we near the end of 2019, I want to take a moment to thank you for your contributions to the University of Calgary and the surrounding community.
You have shown exceptional leadership over the past year, and this has not been easy. We have faced a time of uncertainty and difficult decisions that have had an impact on every member of our university.
In the midst of these challenges, you have stepped up with your support and commitment. You have helped us move forward together as a university, making sure that UCalgary continues to serve as a bright light for our city and province.
We have much to celebrate because of your contributions this year. To highlight just a few examples:
- Two UCalgary students were named as 2020 Rhodes Scholars: Manpreet Deol from the Schulich School of Engineering and Emily Boucher from the Cumming School of Medicine.
- The Calgary team was first runner-up among over 300 teams at the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition in Boston.
- The Dinos represented our university with distinction on the national stage, with 147 Academic All-Canadians and two national championships.
- We launched Innovation@UCalgary to support the numerous students, postdoctoral scholars, faculty, staff and other community members engaged in research activities at our university.
- We watched with pride as the Class of 2019 crossed the stage during convocation, joining an alumni community now over 185,000 strong in more than 150 countries around the world.
The list goes on. You have played an important role at our university during a time when our community needs us more than ever.
I’m looking forward to 2020 and the great things that we will achieve together as we continue to strive for excellence in our teaching, learning, research and community impact.
Until then, I hope you have a wonderful holiday and I wish you all the best for the New Year!
Ed McCauley
