Age and contact metamorphism of intrusions within and north of the Valhalla complex, SE BC
Maren aims to date, using U-Pb geochronology of zircon, several Mesozoic intrusions on the north flank of the Valhalla complex (VC). The VC is one of the constituent metamorphic core complexes of the Shuswap domain of SE BC. The VC is separated from surrounding lower grade rocks to the north by the ductile Valkyr shear zone (~60 Ma). The intrusions she wishes to date occur north and south of the Valkyr shear zone. Combined with assessment of the depth of emplacement from mineral assemblages contained in the contact aureoles, the aim is to constrain the timing of pluton emplacement relative to the shearing.
