NTS Map Sheets

NTS (National Topographic System) map sheets are available for all of Canada. The main components of the NTS are coverages of Canada at the two scales of 1:50,000 and 1:250,000.
NTS map sheets are designated first by a number. The number corresponds to
a block of Canada measuring 4° of latitude (north-south) by 8°
of longitude (east-west).
1:250,000 NTS Map Sheets
Each NTS numbered block is broken into 16 blocks of 1° latitude by
2° longitude. These smaller blocks are designated by letters, and
within the larger block the letters are assigned as follows:
Each of these smaller blocks is represented by a 1:250,000 map sheet. These
map sheets are identified by the number and letter, so that the 1:250,000
map sheet covering most of the Kananaskis is designated 82J.
1:50,000 NTS Map Sheets
Each 1:250,000 NTS map sheet is further broken into 16 blocks that measure
1/4° (15 minutes) of latitude by 1/2° (30 minutes) of longitude.
These smaller blocks are designated by numbers, and within a 1:250,000
block the smaller blocks are numbered as follows:
13 | 14 | 15 | 16 |
12 | 11 | 10 | 9 |
5 | 6 | 7 | 8 |
4 | 3 | 2 | 1 |
Each of these smaller blocks is represented by a 1:50,000 map sheet. These map sheets are identified by the number and letter of the 1:250,000 map sheet and the further number for the smaller block. Thus the 1:50,000 map sheet covering Drumheller is des
ignated 82P/07.
